The Greene County baseball lost its second game to begin the home opener against South Hamilton on Wednesday..
On the mound for the Rams, senior Brent Riley is credited with the loss, having given up four earned runs and one unearned in three innings of work. Riley also walked one batter and had one strikeout while allowing 10 hits. Junior Austin Roberts closed out the game for Greene County, giving up five earned runs in four innings of work. Roberts hit one batter, walked another, and had one strikeout while allowing nine hits.
At the plate, the Rams were unable to generate any momentum until late in the game, at which point their deficit was too large to overcome. With four hits and three walks, the team only reached base seven times but were able to capitalize late by putting up four runs between the sixth and seventh innings.
In the field, the Rams suffered three costly errors, two of them in the infield.
The Rams were down by nine runs after just four innings as the Hawks were able to capitalize on costly lapses by Rams fielders. Despite a last-ditch comeback effort by Greene County, the Hawks walked away with a win by a score of 10-4.
The Rams will continue their search for their first win of the season on Friday, June 19, as they travel to Gilbert High School.
